Question Sorting NHL list of teams into East and West and in an independant order within

This is a sub-function of a NHL bracket I have nearly complete.

I have a list of teams that made the playoffs and their regular season league standing...

    1 Vancouver Canucks
    2 Washington Capitals
    3 Philadelphia Flyers
    4 Pittsburgh Penguins
    5 San Jose Sharks
    6 Detroit Red Wings

(so on so forth, not in the mood to list all 16)

Now, what I want to do with this.... I set up a East and West checkbox system ... so the end user will check if that team is east or west. (and the True, False column will be there, but will be in white print and unviewable to the end-user)

    Now here's my snag....

Both West and East .... have teams that rank 1 thru 8 .... I am looking for a way to get Excel (using 2010) to put the teams in the proper category (east or west) and in the proper order for that category. 1 thru 8 within West or 1 thru 8 within East

One last thing, and I think it's a given... this has to be all automated because I want this bracket to be usable regardless of which post-season year it is used.

I hope I was clear in describing this. I know there are brilliant minds on this forum that are more advanced than I am. Hopefully someone knows how to jump this hurdle of mine.

Thank you so much in advance!

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook, the workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

If needed supply a before and after sheet in the workbook so the person helping you can see what you are trying to achieve.

Doing this will ensure you get the result you need!

I didn't know I could do that. Ok, I'll have to do that when I get off work. Not at my computer with my spreadsheet ATM. And it's a bit too complicated to just whip up a quick example. Thanks. I'll post my dummy workbook after I get home. =)

You are fricken amazing! Now I'm just analyzing it trying to figure out how what you did works!

If I'm reading the code right, I don't need the checkboxes... is that right?

Well you need the TRUEs and FALSEs in columns K and L... however you get them there...

The formula is looking for TRUEs in those columns, in order to return the corresponding teams.
