    Calculating Subtotals for Different Categories

    Hi guys,

I have a sheet made for tracking refunds by catagory, but am having a hard time getting catagorized subtotals.

There are 5 different refund codes (A, B, C, D, E) and at the top of the sheet I want to be able to break down the refund totals by catagory. So I need something like "If any cell in G11:G93="C", include in the total in cell B3, If Any cell in G11:G93=B, include in the total in cell B2. etc." I've been trying to learn the SUBTOTAL function, but am not having much luck. Unfortunately the sheet is not sorted by refund code, otherwise it would be a simple task. Any and all ideas are welcome, thanks in advance.

Sounds like a Pivot Table would give you what you need.

Post a sample workbook for more help.

I just need subtotals, not a pivot table. Attached is a workbook. Cells C4:C8 need to subtotal the amounts in E11:E21, but by the category noted in G11:G22. Thanks for the help so far!

Using =SUMIF(G12:G23,"B",E12:E23) in the Subtotal cell, I got exactly what I needed, thanks for the help though!
