Look for corresponding values in multiple workbooks

HI, I have about two dozen workbooks. Each workbook represents the assetts that need particular work done. Each workbook contains the assett numbers requiring that type of work done. For example under the workbook "change windshield" there are 100 assetts that need this work done.
No doubt many assetts are due for some, but not all of the different types of work.
How can I complile and analyze the workbooks to see which work types are due, by assett number?

The way I would set it up is to copy all the asset numbers to a master sheet. From there you have to define the sheets and then you could do a Vlookup.
