Why does it take so much longer to open a file based on a template than the template?

Hello, I have a template that's not too complex. If I open the template it takes a few seconds (5-6) to open up fully, but if I open a new file based on that template it takes aver 30 seconds to open up and I see the cells painting very slowly on the screen.

I can't understand why it is so different. Can anyone explain or suggest what I might do to get the new file opening quicker?

I'm on Excel 2007 and the template is a macro enabled one.

It's attached for info, however there is no data in the 'extracted data' worksheet in this example. It makes no difference to the problem at hand not having the data. I will be connecting to an external data source to import the data when the file is created.

    Many thanks.

    Woolmep,

    I had the same problem a while back and this was my IT guys response, I hope it helps;

I know this sounds like an odd question, but what CPU is in the machine
you're running 2007 on? If it's a multi-core CPU such as an AMD X2 or Intel
Core-Duo then the slowdown could be because of multi-threading issues in 2007
    on multi-core CPUs.

One test, if you do have a multi-core CPU, would be to turn off
multi-threading in Excel and run the macros a few times to see if there's a
speed improvement. Here's the path to the setting:
[Office Button] | [Excel Options] | [Advanced]
Scroll down to the [Formulas] section and uncheck the "Enable Multi-threaded
    calculation" setting.

Thanks, I'll have a look at that and see if it makes a difference. If not then I'll probably drop the idea of using a template and just have a spreadsheet. I can protect the spreadsheet so that it can't be altered, and that was why I'd originally wanted to use a template.

    King regards
    Pete
