    Locking specific columns

    Morning all

I have a spreadsheet that has 5 columns requiring user input and after each column is a further column giving a converted figure. I need these converted figure columns locked and ideally have the cursor move to the input fields only.

So in the attached example, Coumns G,I and K are the input fields, and I need H, J, M and N locked. So the idea would be that I fill in A B C if applicable,D E F and G. Then when I hit Tab, the cursor ould move to I, then after data input and I hit Tab it would move to K and then after that move to O.

Obviously, I will still need access to the other columns at somepoint if the formulae they contain need adjusting, but as a data input, it would be really useful to be able to move as described above.

    Any ideas?

    Many thanks

    Re: Locking specific columns

Use the Locked/Unlocked property of the cells you need to access then protect the sheet.
    Locked is the default.

Select the cells you want to Unlock (Hold down Ctrl while you select multiple ranges)

    Format > Format Cells...
In the tab "Protection" uncheck the checkbox "Locked" > Press "Okay"

This will have no effect until you protect the sheet
Format > Protect Sheet, use a password if you wish, just remember we will not help you to break this if you forget it!
(Leave the Password Field blank if you don't want to use a password)

To edit later Format > Unprotect Sheet

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks Marcol

That works perfectly. I have booked an appointment to have the password tatooed on my forehead so I don't forget.

    Thanks again.

Get someone to read it out for you once you have it done, I find them hard to copy using a mirror....

Might cost a little more, but the artist might reverse it for you!
