Excel2010: change pivot table data source to external connection

Hi, i hope anyone has an idea for that:
I have a pivot table bound to a data range in the same excel sheet. Now I want to bind the table to an external source (in this case powerpivot). If i choose "Chage Data Source" from pivottable ribbon, I can only choose another range, but external connection is greyed out.
Is there a way to do this, otherwise I'd have a lot of work recreating many pivottables.

Btw, another question, when I add fields to a new pivottable, is there a way to prevent the pivot from refreshing after each field, or to add multiple fields at once? With a lot of data/fields behind this is quite uncomfortable and slow.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks, Gert

    Hi Gert

With regard to your second question, if you look at the bottom of the Field List, there is a box for Defer Layout Update and a Button for Update.

With regard to your first question, as far as I know if you are using Power Pivot, then you have to initiate the PT from within Power Pivot. I don't think it is at all possible to do it the other way araound

Hi Roger, thanks a lot for your reply.
Regarding #2, there's no defer layout button when creating the pivot table on a powerpivot connection, but according to your comment about creating the pivot from powerpivot it really makes a difference when I initiate the pivottable from powerpivot ribbon. In that case the fields can be added fast.
    Many thanks, Gert

hmm, I was too early with my message. Has just been fast as I started pulling a lot filter fileds and no value fields. Seems that it needs to run the OLAP query vs. powerpivot every time you change thevaluefields.
