    formula and conditional formatting help

    ='Current Adults'!F503
this is the formula i am currently using to get the data that i want off of another sheet. this will answer with whatever i type in the the block it is referencing,

well i type into the main block a date, but when i go back to my other sheet i don't want it to have a date there i just want it to show an X.

is there a way without changing the formula to tell a cell that if it is greater than 0 then it needs to display an X instead.

Again do not change the formula, this is a big list and i don't want to have to go cell by cell changing the formulas around.

You could format the cells with a Custom format. For example:

    "P";"N";"Z"

will display a "P" for a positive number, "N" for a negative number, and "Z" for a zero value.

Change the letters to whatever you want.

do they have a custom format on excel 2007, if they do where, all the formats i see available are soley for changing the colors of the cells not being able to specify your own letter.

On the Home Ribbon, select Format. At the bottom of the drop down menu, pick Format cells. On the Number tab, select Custom at the bottom of the list. In the Type box, clear whatever is there and type in:

    "P";"N";"Z"

    Press OK.

    Done.

    Regards
