    Copying Conditional Format Rule

    Hi,

I've just created a project log spreadsheet for tracking actions, risks & issues etc.

The last time I did this I was using Excel 2003 and I added a rule to change the text once the actions/risk/issue was closed.

Basically, I've said =$G$3="Closed" then format the text to be italic and grey out the entire row.

I've recreated this in the new 2007 spreadsheet, but when I try to copy the rule down to the next row, it keeps the =$G$3 format rather than automatically editing it to that of the next row (ie: =$G$4).

I thought that the way to resolve this was to remove the $, but this doesn't appear to work.

I have dozens of actions/risks/issues to create, so I can't afford to edit them per individual cell.

Can anyone help me to copy them across correctly?

    Regards,

    Steve

Changing =$G$3 to =$G3 should work.

    Post a sample workbook.

Please see item 001 (row 3) as an example.

I need to repeat the format in G3 to following rows, but I'm unable to do so.

    Re: Copying Conditional Format Rule

    See tha attached updated workbook.

You need to apply the format to all the cells in the range ... rows 3 to 12 ... and remove the $ sign: $G$3 becomes $G3. You must retain the $ in front of the G as that fixes the column for the comparison.

Talking Re: Copying Conditional Format Rule

Thank you very much kind Sir!

Not sure where I was going wrong, as I swear I tried that! Seems to work now that I've copied your rule across though.

    Cheers!

    Re: Copying Conditional Format Rule

In the example, the formatting only seemed to apply to row 3.

But, you're welcome. Thanks for the rep.
