    percentages

    Hi everyone im new to the forum and to excel, im sure this is a simple calc but im stuck all i need to do is this:

    Cell A2 Hourly rate of pay ie £6.50 going up to £7.25 on the next pay rise in Cell B2 i want to calculate the percentage in C2, hope that makes sense

    Percentage increases are always calculated by difference over the initial value.

    in C2 put in the following equation:

    =(B2-A2)/A2

    From here, you will need to click on the % button under formatting to convert the result into the % increase.

    I used that formula and it returned the following

    £7.50 £8.25 0.00%

    I don't think 0.00% is what you are looking for. The calculation you want Excel to do is (7.25-6.50)/6.50. This can be done by typing:

    =(B2-A2)/A2

    in cell C2 as Miraun mentioned. How did you get 0%?
