    Date Format Driving Me Crazy

I have an excel sheet with a table and a pivot table.

In the pivot table, the date is formatted like so: 06/04/11.

I have to manually format the dates to look like how I want it to look. ie, 4-Jun.

I've read that excel is simply taking the default regional setting and applying it to my date formating.

The thing is that the format "4-Jun" format is not available is the customized regional date setting.

Is there a way to have my dates format how I want them to by default?

I should mention that the data date pasted into my table looks like this: jun04 and when pasted it's automatically formatted to look like 04-Jun, but in the pivot table looks like 06/04/11

    Please help.

    Thanks

In Windows 7, you can amend the date format in the Regional Settings

Search for Regional Settings, select Additional Settings, choose the data tab .... and meddle to your heart's content.

I haven't tested it because, for me, it's not a problem.

I guess it's similar in XP

Let me know how you get on.

    Hi,

In the Pivot Table Field List click the drop down arrow next to the date item, click field settings, select number format and then custom and then customise the date format as you want.

I've tried doing it this way, but the specific date format that I want is not available in the customized date settings in windows regional setting.

    thanks anyways.

this seems to be working for one of my dates formats. The other date format that I have in the pivot table fields settings doesn't give me the option for changing the number format for some reason?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks
