    Consecutive numbering

    Hi there,

I have an Excel worksheet template (see attached) and I was wondering if there's anyway, after I insert a number that I choose in the Quote number box ,then everytime the template is opened Excel puts the next consecutive number in the same box?
    Many thanks in anticipation

    Hi Keth24249,

I think you need to read about Event Macros that go behind the Worksheet. The idea is that these are triggered by events. An event of Open or Activate could easily put a Job Number in the correct place on a sheet and add one to the last job number stored somewhere else in the workbook.

    Read about them at http://www.cpearson.com/excel/Events.aspx

    Re: Consecutive numbering

    Hi Marvin,
Many thanks for your prompt reply. I think I need something working as I open the workbook. I have read the contents of the link that you sent and I have cut and pasted from those pages but have had no success. I have also googled for help and cut and paste code but nothing has happened yet. I have also tried to record a macro but my very limited knowledge has not produced a result. Is there any further help you can give to point me in the right direction, please?
    Regards
    Keith

    Re: Consecutive numbering

    Hey Keith24249,

Find the attached where I've put some code behind the workbook. Everytime you open the workbook it will take the number on the DATA sheet in E2 and put it on your WorkOrder sheet. Then it will add 1 to the number in E2 on the Data sheet.

See if this is what you want. See the attached.
