    Reference entire col or should i specify exact range

    Just wondering if there is any advantage/disadvantage to using this formula where i reference the entrie col instead of specific range.

    I would prefer to use the "top" one because then this protects me against variations in the number of rows on the LNR_Inputfile sheet. But is there a disadvantage to doing this? SPeed ? Memory?

    There is only one disadvantage of the column based equation that I can think of. If you've happened to switch formatting on a very low row within excel, so that it considers your workbook 'filled' up until that row...

    For example, if you added in a boarder to cell A50000, in excel 2003, it would count as though you had A1:A50000 filled with information, which would subsequently be counted in your file size (and noticeably on your scroll bars)

    If Excel was thinking that you had 50000 rows filled in column B for a similar reason, then I could see a potential increase in the calculation time relative to an equation was artificially cut short.

    It should also be considered though, that being 'relatively' slower is likely not a noticeable difference unless performing the equation hundreds of times... on a 10 year old computer.

    so you think its adding calc time because i referenced the entire column?
