What is the formula of a checkbox

    Hi All,

I have created a spread sheet that i plan to convert to an interactive PDF so my customers can fill in their details and select the games they wish to have loaded on the hard drive they are purchasing.

I am facing 2 issues that are stopping me from completing this.

    1) Checkboxes
at present each row is selected by using a "y" instead of an actual checkbox and i can not figure out how to get a Check box in that cell to select and deselect the value on each row to the target box.

    2) Fillable fields
I have 7 fields that need to be filled out my customers. this excel form when coverted to PDF will not allow my customers to fill their details and save or email back to me as a attachment with their information in it.

I know that Acrobat does this but is there a free program that will allow me to convert my excel spreadsheet to PDF and allow those text fields to be fillable and savable.

Does do justice to take a look at my worksheet to get a better understanding

    Many Thanks

First, I don't know what the official position is on the forum but Open Office isn't Excel, contrary to the way you list it in your profile. Although it's supposed to be compatible with Excel, it isn't actually Excel and this is an Excel forum. So you bear some risk that an Excel solution here may not work for you. Excel opened your document but gave me a warning when I tried to save it so I saved it as an Excel file type.

I could not see what you meant by selecting using a "y" because putting a "y" in the Select column doesn't have any effect. But I'll assume that's what you meant.

See the attached for one step towards a solution. I modified the amount of memory used to reflect what the user checks.

For #2, I don't think you can make a PDF file that has active content. That is, you can make a form you can fill out, but it won't calculate anything based on what you enter (I could be wrong about this, but I have Acrobat Professional 6.0 so it would have to be a new feature in a later version). What you really want is an Excel spreadsheet with protection so the user can enter data but not mess up your format. (No idea what Open Office offers for protection.)
