Excel 2007 : Making 1 cell = another cell only after data is entered in a different cell

How do I make cell B14 = the date entered in cell B6 only after any sample number is entered in cell A14? If there is NO sample number in cell A14 then there should be NO date in cell B14, it should be empty. I used =IF(OR(A14="",$B$6=""),"",$B$6) and now the date cell (B14) now has 40738 in it. When I entered 07/14/11 in cell B6. Also, how do I hide all those #VALUE! errors on the right side of the screen?
