Making 1 cell = another cell only after data is entered in a different cell

How do I make cell B14 = the date entered in cell B6 only after any sample number is entered in cell A14,if there is NO sample number in cell A14 then there should be NO date in cell B14, it should be empty..

I used that formula the date cell (B14) now has 40738 in it.

40738 is how Excel "remembers" or stores the date 14 July 2011.

Try setting cell B14 with a date format.
