Smile If Blank enter another cell value

Can someone help please. Ive tried isblank, <> and many formulae but get FALSE messages. The answer will be simple am sure but I am struggling

I need a formula as per the attachment. Column A should be the results as read from Columns B and C. Spreadsheet self explanatory I hope.

    Thanks in advance

    Martin

    Try:

    =IF(TRIM(C1)<>"",TRIM(C1),TRIM(B1))
