    Linkage between excel files won't work

    Hi All,

    I need some urgent help as my assignment which I am doing in excel needs to be submitted next week and suddenly excel won't let me do any linkages at all.

    So here is the problem:

    I have got an excel file called Book1 and another called Book2 open.

    When I try to link CellA1 in Book 1 to D5 in Book2 it won't let me....well the equal sign just disappears when I switch to the other excel file.

    I have been working on Macros all day and not sure whether it accidently messed something up within the settings?

    I hope my example makes sense at would really appreciate your help

    Thanks

    I have not seen this exact problem before but it doesn't sound like something that would be caused by macros unless you are using event handlers that fire when you change a selection or the active worksheet. Failing that, the first thing I would suggest is make sure you have saved both files before you link any cells.

    Re: Linkage between excel files won't work

    Thanks for your answer,

    After opening blank excel files I have saved and reopened the them again. The linkages seemed to work, however I now have got the problem that all the saved excel files which I open, are opening in the same window i.e. I can't seperate them across my screen, however, I can see multiple tabs on my task bar with which I can switch between the files (in the same window though)

    I have checked the options and the 'Windows in Taskbar' box is ticked....so not sure what to do

    I am glad the formulas work, however it's slightly annoying not being able to distribute multiple excel files across my screen. Do you know by any chance how to fix this?

    I have got quite simple macros which just linkages between files (I'm a total beginner on macros lol), however I'm a bit worried that the code below might have changed the settings:

    Application.ScreenUpdating = False
    Application.ShowWindowsInTaskbar = False
    Application.Visible = False

    And then the same with True at the end

    A couple of months ago, when my macro had an error halfway through playing, it somehow managed to un-tick the "Windows in Taskbar" box.....

    btw - I have got office 2003

    Thanks
