I need a formula that will display the previous month. ex. right now the cell would say July.

If you use the ADD-in Analysis pack, you can use EDATE
=EDATE(TODAY(),-1) Format the cell(s) as custom mmmm

substitute commas with semi-colons if your region settings requires

=TODAY()-DAY(TODAY())
Format as mmmm
