Why does auto fill use decimals?

    Hi there,

I am trying to make an auto fill series of the following:

    1,1,1,2,2,2,3,3,3,4,4,4 and so on.

I have done this, but when I use the merge text forumla to merge the number series with another cell, the number appears as a decimal. When i double click into my number series cells, they appear as 1.4, 1.7 etc.. I have tried to copy and paste the values but this does not work. I wondered if anyone knew what was going wrong?

I've also tried formatting the cells as text, taking away the decimals on Number but this is to no avail.

    Thanks.

not sure what you mean but if you want a dragable fill series 111222333444555 use

    =CEILING(ROW(A1)/3,1) downwards or
    =CEILING(COLUMN(A1)/3,1) across the columns
