    Text on a chart

    Hello,

I have a chart generated in my Excel sheet based on a table of numbers. The chart comes fine. After that, I add manually lines and text boxes on the chart to annotate the graph.

Many of such text boxes and lines are visible and fine. The ZOrder of the text box and visible flag are all set properly.

When I move such a visible text box to particular portions of the chart, the text box is
    a) visible when any object in the chart is selected
    b) and is hidden when the selection is outside the chart.

This happens for any of the text boxes present in the chart, so it appears to be something special to the area in the chart where these text boxes disappear.

I have written Excel code to iterate through all the shapes in the sheet and see that all text boxes (including the "hidden" text box) are shapes within the Chart collection.

Any help or suggestions why this strange behavior is happening?

    Thanks in advance,
    Sridhar TR

    Hello teylyn,

Good day. Thanks for your quick feedback.
Attached a sample Excel sheet exhibiting the problem outlined earlier in the thread.

Text Box 28 with text "Text7" in Sheet "Average graphs" goes missing when focus is outside the chart but is visible when the chart or any other object in the chart is selected.

    Thanks,
    Sridhar

    Re: Text on a chart

Hmm, I can see all seven text boxes loud and clear, no matter whether the chart has the focus or a cell. The text boxes show fine in Excel 2003 and 2010.

Maybe something's wrong with your setup. All service packs up to date?

    cheers,

    Re: Text on a chart

    Hello teylyn,

After you mentioned, I rechecked. The observations are interesting. At view zoom level of 25%, 50% and 75%, I am able to see all Text Boxes.

At 100% zoom, Text Box 28 goes "missing" when the focus is outside the chart, say, Cell R15 or R45.

At 125% zoom, Text Box 7 also goes missing

At 200% zoom, only Text Box 4 and Text Box 9 are visible.

Are you observing similar behavior? Is this expected?

    Thanks,
    Sridhar

Nope, using Ctrl-mouse wheel to change zoom levels, all text boxes remain perfectly visible in my Excel 2003 and my Excel 2010.

This is starting to sound like a rendering issue. You may want to check out your hardware and update with the most current drivers.

    cheers,
