How to sum cells that share same ssn?

Hi guys i don't know if its possible to do in excel...

Basically i would like to add up all balances in column B under the same SSN/TIN found in column C.

So the formula should return 656.24 for John in column D because he has two loans with balances of 156.24 & 500.00.

I don't even know what function to use to start on this...

    How about?

    =SUMIFS($B$2:$B$14,$A$2:$A$14,A2,$C$2:$C$14,C2)
Where there is a will there are many ways.

It works but i don't get why you reference the columns w/names & why you have c2 in the formula...

I am referencing the columns with names, because you want to separate the calculations by those names, and then by ssn. A2 and C2 in the formula reference the name/ssn combination in that row, so that the same combinations in the columns are gathered and column B, correspondingly summed.
