    Typing Numbers in Cells?

Hi...I'm running Excel 2007 and use it seldom, so am no XL expert.
    Here's my problem:

I want to type a particular format of numbers in an XL cell.

The format I want is: '1:23' - actually, the times of music tracks. I just like the way it looks in my spreadsheet of music tracks.

So: first single number, then full colon, then the rest

However whenever I type in the above and come out of the cell, it changes to '01:23'

I tried deleting the zero, but the cell still reverts to '01:23'.

I've looked on 'Number'>Custom for a format that is similar but there is none that takes the above exactly as its rule.
The nearest is h:mm AM/PM...but again if I delete the 'extra' digits, the number reverts again to '01:23'
    Absolutely infuriating!

I must be missing something simple here...so could someone tell me how to sort this one out?

    Many thanks

Hi nibwil and welcome to the forum,

Try changing the format of those cells to Custom of h:mm.

Hope that does it for you.

Hi Marvin...thanks for taking time to reply.
As I've already said, I looked in Custom....but 'h:mm' is NOT listed as one of the options...That's why I had to try 'h:mm AM/PM'...you know the result!
    So, any other suggestion?

    Hi,

You need to create a new Custom format of h:mm and use it on those cells.
