    excel file wont open

I have an excel file that I update one a month.
It includes few simple macros that are activated when I push a button, so nothing is supposed to run automatically when the file is opened.
I saved the file as "macro enable".

Lately I noticed that it takes the file a long time to open.
Now it will not open at all. Even after 12 hours.

I tried running the diagnostic tool - no issue was found.
I tried opening the file on a different computer. Same problem.

Any idea how to recover the file?

    Thank you

Try opening a copy of the file with Open Office Calc (spreadsheet).

If you cannot open the file with Excel, how do you propose to solve the problem with Excel?

I was asking for help to debug and solve the problem.
Moving to other provider is not the only way to solve problems.

The suggestion was not to dump Excel and move to Open Office, but to try and open the file in OO. If successful, you then save it before trying to open it in Excel again. This is a common method of fixing corrupt Excel files.

The Open Office will not open it either. Is there something else I could do to recover?

If not, no big deal, I have backups of this file from earlier stages.
The issue is that I already felt it takes it too long to open lately, so the seed of the problem is still inside the file.
Is there something I can do to analyze why is the file so slow to be opened?

There are third party utilities to recover workbooks, but they tend to cost. It sounds as though you may have corruption in the file - I'd probably recreate a new copy from a recent backup, and see if the problem persists.

I can open the backup file.
How can I check if something is corrupted/need to be fixed?
Is there a utility that checks the excel file?

I'm not aware of any - I tend to err on the side of caution and just rebuild any workbook that exhibits strange behaviour.

Makes sense, What is the best way to do that?
Should I copy each sheet (I have about 15 of those) manually from current file to a new file?
Could it be that copying will copy the source of the problem as well?

Perhaps I should re-write the macros.

    Please advise.
