Excel changes empty chart w/o markers to chart w/ markers

I have a workbook that has a chart with a macro that adds and removes data. By default it is a XY scatter plot w/o markers. However, if the workbook happens to be saved when the chart is empty then excel converts the chart area to a XY scatter plot w/ markers.

I don't want it to always be a XY scatter plot w/o markers. I would rather users are able to make it whatever they like and have excel save the settings whether or not the chart contains any series. So I am really just worried people will get annoyed by having to change the chart type every time the use the workbook.

Any idea what I am missing that causes this to occur?

    Thanks!

I am not able to advise with a solution - but it may be easier to gain a solution if you were to upload a workbook.
