Question I need help populating a cell based on a list selection made in previous cell

I need help to enable the following scenario (Excel 2007):
My spreadsheet utilizes a variety of lists contained on a separate sheet/tab
Most are simple drop-down, select, done
But I have one column where I want the cells populated based on the drop down selection in the previous cell.

Among the lists in the workbook, there are two lists (example) called TEAMID and TEAMNAME. I would like to select TEAMID from a drop-down/list and have that selection drive the population of the teamname cell so that TEAMNAME is never manually selected and TEAMID and TEAMNAME are always in sync.

    Example:

    (selected) (populated)
    TEAMID TEAMNAME

    RT00112 Red Team 2
    PT00110 Purple Team 0
    BT00111 Blue Team 1
    GT00113 Green Team 3
    BT00114 Blue Team 4
    GT00114 Green Team 4
    PT00114 Purple Team 4
    GT00116 Green Team 6
    GT00113 Green Team 3
    RT00113 Red Team 3
    GT00116 Green Team 6
    PT00110 Purple Team 0
    BT00112 Blue Team 2
    RT00112 Red Team 2
    PT00115 Purple Team 5

I'm not a programmer so responses should not be too technical please.
    Thanks,

Hi and welcome to the board

You can use the VLOOKUP function to retrieve the corresponding value from your list

Re: I need help populating a cell based on a list selection made in previous cell

I have somewhat the same issue, I have my drop down with the team name in cell c6, and all of the names of the team members in L20-L32, I would like to be able to say that if C6=Team 1, then populate the names of the team members c7 through c19 (these cells are directly below the team name). I tried using vlookup and hlookup but can't figure out the correct formula to get it to work. Can I get some assistance on how to correctly arrange the formula so it will auto populate when Team 1 is entered into cell C6. Thanks for any help or guidance that may be given.
