    (Solved) Link help needed

    Hello!
I've been scratching my head trying to solve a following problem for one of my users.
When he opens a network based excel spreadsheet that has formulas, the links are not displayed correctly.

For example, a link to \\server\share\\folder\file.xls will change itself to \\server\share\share\folder\file.xls

In other words, the share name appears twice in the link for some reason.

He is the only one affected, everybody else is fine.

Any idea why this keeps happening?

    Thanks!

The link gets corrupted for some reason. You can go to Data -> Edit links and link them again.

Here is some material that you can read up -

    Re: Link help needed

But why the same file has the right link if it is opened on another PC?
The link is relative so it changes depending how my users access the server, whether it is by FQDN, DFS or the CNAME.
For this particular person on that particular machine it is happening for every excel spreadsheet he is opening.
Tried under a different profile, same thing.
Tried his account on another machine, looks good.

    Re: Link help needed

    Update:

the problem started affecting a few more people.

Now, I moved a file over to another network share, ie from
    \\server\Business\Documents\test.xls
    to
    \\server\private\temp\test.xls

The link on his PC changes from (for example)
    \\server\Business\Business\Documents\linked file.xls
    to
    \\server\private\Business\Documents\linked file.xls

When I check the same file on a PC that does not have this problem, the link shows up correctly:

    \\server\Business\Documents\linked file.xls

    Any ideas??

Just want to let everyone know that the solution was found.

I had to remove KB2553073 from the affected machine to resolve it.
This KB is faulty and should not have been pushed out by MS in the first place.
