    Creating graphs in Excel 2007

    Hello,

Im having a bit of trouble with a graph i am trying to create. When i generate a graph from the data below i get the attached graph. For some reason it just shows a date with one line, when it actually has lots of values for that day.

Does anyone know how to fix/resolve or even know of a better way of generating a graph for the data below?

    Thanks,

    W

if you do not want the dates plotted as true dates then format the axis to be Text.
    Cheers

But the issue is, all the data for one date is one line on the bar chart, i would like it to show each value as a different bar for the same day. Is there not a way of changing the way the graph formats the data?

    Thanks.

So did you try changing the axis type as suggested?

Ahh, apologies, i was formatting under the wrong sub heading. It works, thanks you :-)

One final thing i wondered if its possible, is there a way to remove duplicated dates on the X axis, so it only shows one 07/09/2011 below the set of bars, and then the next date and set of bars, etc?

    Many Thanks.

You can try multi level category lables.

Or a set of category labels where only labels required have a value.

    Hello,

Does that mean i need to go through all my data and delete duplicate dates?

    Many Thanks.

Did you look at the example?

For the multi level labels I used formula to display only the first occurance of a date.

    Hello Andy,

Im trying to repeat what you did for another set of data however I'm not getting the lines on the X axis, and in the format options i dont have the 'Multi-level category labels' option like you in your excel workbook.

I select the data, create column 2D graph and get the same visual apart from the options, where am i going wrong?

    Thanks.

Does your data series have two columns of data labels selected?

You there is not multiple items to display the option will not be present.

I used the same formula in your worksheet to pull out one date per month. I selected the values and the date title, held CTRL and then selected the values including the title pressure.

It creates a graph (simliar to the temp graph) but i cant get the X axis correct because im missing the tick box.

    Many Thanks,

That did not answer the question. Does the series formula contain a range for the category labels that is more than 1 column wide?

Post latest file if not sure.

You do indeed have 2 columns referenced. Trouble is the second column C2:C156 is empty, so Excel helpful excludes this from the chart.

Try adding a space in C2 and you should see the chart react.

One final thing, I'm trying to change the X axis date to dd/mm however when i select that format under the 'number' tab in 'format axis', the values on the graph dont change. Is it because the data I'm using includes a year which must be shown on the graph?
