Sorting chunks of cells according to just some selected cells

    Hi!

My problem is that I've got information about different individuals that I need to sort according to their year of birth or their surname, as well as fit it all on the width of an A4

what I've done is put up information in different cells like this ( a lot more info/rows though):

    Waltz Andrew 0505 1967
    Place of residence: Florida
    Criminal records: None
Military service: Served between 2001 and 2003
Other info: Grew up in Britain where he lived with
    his mother and 3 brothers

    Anderson Ryan 1612 1982
    Place of residence: Nashville
Criminal records: Burglary, car theft, drug related offences
    Military service: None
    Other info: None

    Miller Kyle 0307 1979
    Place of residence: Alaska
    Criminal records: Theft
    Military service: Served in 2005
    Other info:

The problem is of course that excel throws everything in together and the end result is for me completely worthless. Do to massive amounts of info I can't put it all on one line and I do need to have a way of rearranging the info as individuals are added to the system all the time.
I would need these "clusters" to stick together and not let excel throw around all the lines or columns in my file.

The end resulto this example arranged according to their names would of course be:

    Anderson Ryan 1612 1982
    Place of residence: Nashville
Criminal records: Burglary, car theft, drug related offences
    Military service: None
    Other info: None

    Miller Kyle 0307 1979
    Place of residence: Alaska
    Criminal records: Theft
    Military service: Served in 2005
    Other info:

    Waltz Andrew 0505 1967
    Place of residence: Florida
    Criminal records: None
Military service: Served between 2001 and 2003
Other info: Grew up in Britain where he lived with
    his mother and 3 brothers

or according to the year they were born:

    Waltz Andrew 0505 1967
    Place of residence: Florida
    Criminal records: None
Military service: Served between 2001 and 2003
Other info: Grew up in Britain where he lived with
    his mother and 3 brothers

    Miller Kyle 0307 1979
    Place of residence: Alaska
    Criminal records: Theft
    Military service: Served in 2005
    Other info:

    Anderson Ryan 1612 1982
    Place of residence: Nashville
Criminal records: Burglary, car theft, drug related offences
    Military service: None
    Other info: None

    Is this possible to do?

Excel doesn't offer a built-in way to do sorting like that. I can think of two options:

    1. Write macros to do it

    2. Add columns that use formulas to extract the last name and year of birth, and sort by those columns. I have included an example. This only works easily if each chunk of data has the same number of rows. Then you can copy the formulas for one chunk and paste it to the rest of your sheet.

BTW if these are real people you listed in your sample data, you need to remove it from your post as you have provided private data.
