    Hello,

color is not data. Have the cells been formatted manually or is conditional formatting used?

If conditional formatting, you can use the data that is evaluated in the condition.
If the cells have been formatted manually, then you could use the "Sort by color" functionality on the source data and then apply a relevant text value to a new "status" column, which you can then add to the pivot table.

    cheers,

    hello,
Thanks for ur response. Actually nothing was done on the source data. I just created a pivot table from the source data and manual coloring of active and inactive members was done in the pivot table. The source data was actually a the list of all receipts for the entire year in which the names of many members are repeated(since they pay each month).thats y i did it directly in the pivot table. pls help

create the data in the pivot table source, then filtering will be a breeze. I don't think you can filter a pivot table on colors that were manually applied to the pivot table. This is just the wrong way around.

As well as coloring the people in the pivot table, you can sort your source data by name, create a new column and instead of assigning a color to the names, assign a status value in the new column, active or inactive.

Then include that new column in the pivot table and you can filter on it.

    cheers,
