macro management

    Hi,

I don't understand how to manage macros in excel - I get a weekly spreadsheet sent to me and then I want to apply a macro from a library - how do I do that (Excel 2007) - is the macro kept in another spreadsheet (.xlsm?), or do I have to copy and paste the new data into a spreadsheet with a macro embedded in it - help!!! I don't understand!!!

    Hi,

The most straightforward way is to keep your macros that you use regularly in a Personal Macro Workbook. Details of how to create one are here.

Use code tags when posting your VBA code:
Your code here
The best way to manage macros that will be used across various spreadsheets is to keep them in your PERSONAL.XLS

In the VBA editor, you should see a 'VBA Project (PERSONAL.XLS)' in the ladder to the left hand side. If you have not yet created a PERSONAL.XLS, it's easy to do. Just go to 'Record New Macro', then on the dialog box, where it says 'Store Macro In:', choose Personal Macro Workbook. Then record anything (you can easily delete it from the VBA editor), and your PERSONAL.XLS workbook should now be visible in the VBA editor.

Macros stored here can be used across any workbooks you may have open. But bear in mind that obviously they will only work on your PC.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you - I didn't know about the personal workbook!

    Glad it helped.

Please refrain from quoting whole posts when replying per the forum rules. The mods will get upset with you if you do it a lot.
