Anyone have any experience creating an interactive calendar in Excel 2007?

What I'm trying to accomplish is having one worksheet contain a list of start and end dates tied to a person's name. I then want to be able to have a 2nd worksheet that contains a calendar layout, that will display the dates that have been entered on the first sheet.

That's doable.... Where I run into trouble is I want to have a few drop-down lists that will allow me to "filter" what is being shown on my calendar.

Any ideas? Am I asking too much of Excel (I don't think that's possible).
