Unhappy Subtract a percentage from a number

I have to subtract 5% from a number of differently priced totals, to discover the what the discount is for those totals.

I would like to know how to do this myself, on a calculator, and by using a function key which is the main area of focus for me right now.

As apart of my Business course I must learn all functions on excel, but my dragon lady teacher won't give me the time of day to answer any questions (because she's an angry dragon).

The totals I have to discover 5% of are: $2,647.00, $3,980.50 and $4,000.00

    Please help!!

Re: Waht is the formula to use when you want to subtract a percentage from a number?

    Hello Lauren J
    Welcome to the forum.
    Assigments? for Calculator or manual

basically you will multiply price by % that is

    $2,647.00 x .05 = $132.35
    $3980.50 x .05 = $199.025
    $40 00.00 x .05 = $ 200
    $ 531.375

    : $2,647.00 + $3,980.50 + $4,000.00 = $10627.50

    lastly subtract

    $10627.50 - total price
    - 531.375 - total discount
    $10096.125 to be paid
    Explanation:
that goes with the other prices.
then you can add all the answers --that will be the total discount for all the prices.

the total prices then is subtructed by the total discounts. = the answer will be the Price that will be paid.
