Panic! Lost File!

Help!! Somehow, a large spreadsheet with links has seemingly disappeared from my computer, with a lot of data that I need right away. I have searched directories, folders and the recycle bin to no avail, so have concluded that the file was inadvertently deleted. Does anyone know how I can retrieve/restore the file? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
