No Record Count in Status Bar after running auto filter

This is such a basic question I am embarrassed to ask, but a diligent search has been to no avail.

On one installation of my Excel 2003, the status bar on my worksheet will not show the records returned count in auto filter. It wil only show "Filter Mode."

What do I need to do to see the count of records filtered?

I realize that the count only shows for a short while, and then the display is "Filter Mode", but on one of my installations, I can't get ANY record count at all, since it shows "Filter Mode" as soon as I tun the filter.

then try it again.

Hi Ann O and welcome to the forum,

In my Excel > Options > Advanced there is a setting in the Display section that claims to "Indicators only, and comments on hover". I wonder if one of these Display options need setting? Perhaps the "Show function ScreenTips is the one?

Thanks for the suggestions. I didn't have the same "advanced" choices (I am using Excel 2003) and before I could try the manual recalculation idea, I noticed that on another worksheet, I was not having the same probelm. Maybe has somehting to do with the data sorted-- perhaps if it contains a merged cell it won't count??

I would be interested if anyone comes up with a definitive answer, and thanks for the replies so far.
