Talking [SOLVED] Use Conditional formatting based on text value, to change background colour

    Hello all!
I would like to manipulate the background colour of a cell, based on its value.

The cell contains one of four values, example:

    Good
    At Risk
    Slight Delay
    Severe Delay

I would like to to make the background in those cells with the value "Good" light green, "At Risk" pale yellow etc... (you know what I am trying to achieve, no doubt).

I am almost certain that I had a spreadsheet in Excel 2003 that did this, but in Excel 2010 I cannot figure out how to do it.

I would be very grateful for help!

    Regards
    Jo

I use Excel 2007 but i guess the menus will be the same as Excel 2010. In the home menu, there is an option called Conditional Formatting. You should be able to use it. Click on F1 in your excel file and you will get more information on conditional formatting, incase you get stuck.

Hi Jo and welcome to the Forum

With Cobditional formatting you heve only 3 conditions to use. So use the one of your condition the standart format colour and contidional for three others.

Hi, at least in Excel 2010 you can have more than 3 conditions.

    Hi everyone!

Thanks for the tips! The feedback and particularly the example from Fotis1991 helped me solve the problem.
I am really pleased with the result! My AIR sheet (Actions, Issues, Risks - IT project management....) looks super smart... !

Estige is correct in that it is possible to use more than three conditions - in fact, I think it is unlimited.

For future reference, if the spreadsheet is no longer available (attached by fotis) I should add that anyone who wants to do this needs to open "Manage Rules". Then keep adding New rules for all the different conditions that you want.
