copying 10 k cells

Dear Friends - I work with excel 2007, Windows 7. I need to copy circa 10 k lines (text) from one file and paste onto another. If I try to select more than 4, I get a message saying that this command is not valid for multiple selections. Funny enough, sometimes it does accept the copy command, but it pastes them not in the right order. Furthermore, the numbers on the left column are not sequential. It is a translation, and there are hidden cells. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance, Mauro in Rio de Janeiro.

In Excel you may copy non-contiguous ranges if they are all in one row or in one column, if you have multiple rows and columns you will get an error.

I may not be much help because I don't get the whole picture of your work.

Cannot you simply copy the whole worksheet to another file?
For sequential and hidden cells, will "Text to Columns" function help?

Dear moomononcle;
thank you so much for your kind help. Let me explain in detail: the whole translation is several thousand excel lines. I am about 1/4 of the way, and I have just given up using a CAT tool,(Computer aided Traslation) because as the TM gets too long, it takes several seconds for the tool to locate a thread.
But a previous amateur translator had translatd the whole thing through "Google translator" - this yielded a target language column with a number of absuridties (as the Google cannot guess what is the correct order of the adjectives) but, correcting it, would still be faster than continuing with the CAT tool. In the other hand, I don't want to throw away 2 weeks of work. So, I have at the moment two files:
1 - is a file with about 30 k lines, of which the first 10 k lines already translated;
2 - is a file with the whole thing trasnlated, but through Google translator (useless but amendable);

what I need::
1 - I have already created a new file, leaving blank the first 1o k lines, where I want to paste my already translated lines;

2 - I need to copy from my work file these 10k lines in order to paste them on this new file.
I cannot just create a new file, as I would loose 2 weeks of work.
Did you get the picture now? All I need is to be taught a trick to foool this default that prevents me from copying and pasting more than a few excel lines.

Hi

Normally when you are copying rows, everything will get copied, hidden cells as well, they will be visible in the destination sheet. If you could post an example of your source with a small sample of data perhaps it may be easier to determine why you have the problem.

Dear Jeff, I would copy for you a few rows if I could. The problem is exately this: when I select more than 3 or 4 cells, upon hitting the "copy " icon, I get this answer: "this command cannot be used in multiple selections". This mssge pops up whether the numbers on the far left column are sequential or not. But sometimes it does accept the copy command. And I need to copy and paste about 10 k lines... thanks again for your help, I am just a translator, know nothing of excel.

Try copying and pasting complete rows.

Place the cursor in the first row number you wish to copy at the left of the page, left mouse down and hold, shift key down and hold and drag the cursor down to select as many rows as necessary, you should then be able to copy and paste.
