    'Benchmarking' Query

    Hi all,

Am new to the forum, and relatively new to Excel, and am looking for some help with Excel.

I am currently working on a document that shows poeples scores in a test. I have marked everyone, and have placed their scores in to a spreadsheet. I know what the average is for each question, and would now like to 'benchmark' each individual against that benchmark.

For example, each question was out of 5 marks, but the benchmark may only be three. The idea is that if someone got a 3, 4 or 5 out of five, then they have 'passed'. If someone got a 2 or a 1, then they have failed or failed badly! I would like each of these to be red, amber and green.

How can I therefore work out, using a formula, how someone performed against the becnhmark? Although all the questions were out of 5 points, the benchmarkes are anything from 3 - 5. Any idea?

The format looks similar to names in column A, questions in row 1, then their scores populated within.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Re: 'Benchmarking' Query

It would be best if you uploaded a sample workbook (anonymous data) so that we have the context of your structure and data to aid with the solution.
Sounds like you want to use Conditional Formatting to apply a cell fill color based on how the candidate compares to the benchmark.

We need to know how to relate the score for each candidate relative to the benchmark for each question; only the sample workbook can provide this.

    Do you know . . . ?
