    Excel on Android phone

    Hi,

I have just loaded a simple excel sheet (that works on PC) onto my Samsung Android phone. The phone is using either OfficeSuite (or) Quickoffice, both open & read the Excel sheet OK. However, In cell A1 I have a formula to enter todays date =Today() with other info being populated from the date generated in that cell. When the sheet is opened on the phone the date in A1 does not change to todays date. If I delete the formula from the cell & re enter it, the correct date is then displayed.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    John

    Hi John,

Today() picks up the date from system date and in computer, even worksheet needs to be refreshed (calculated) to trigger Today() function to display today's date (if saved in manual calculation mode) and in the similar manner, you need to refresh the worksheet in android OS as well - which automatically does it when you re-enter Today() formula. See if your android office application has F9 (calculate) kind of command which will help you to refresh the date.

    Re: Excel on Android phone

    according to quick office help
The TODAY function does not automatically recalculate in Quicksheet when you open your file, so to update the values in your spreadsheet, go to Options > Worksheet > Recalculate.
then again quickoffice -quicksheet is not excel! or it would be called that.so this isn't really an excel related question!
same as googledocs or open office not everything is the same

    Hi,

Thanks to both of you for the quick feedback & info.

Martin, I'm not an expert like you guy's. It started as an Excel file & is still .xls although being read by a different programme. I suspect you may see more of this sort of thing with the spread of smart phones.......Sorry!

    Rgds,

    John

    Re: Excel on Android phone

I am developing an Excel Viewer app for Android that will support any Excel file in the app with user friendly viewing capabilities and features like Charting, Annotation etc.

Should I focus only on MS Excel viewer (skip the editor since its a crowded market?), the app may cater to users who have a need to only view Excel sheets everyday (MIS Team, Middle and Senior Managers for decision making).

The app could be used to view, analyze and collaborate on the Excel. Some nice features for viewing, first level analyzing and collaborating???

Do you see a market here?
