Translate formula into English

Hi all.

I've nearly got to grips with my golf scoring spreadsheet but I can't quite adapt the following (provided here on an earlier thread) to what I need. Could someone 'translate' it into English please. Once I know what it's doing (and I almost do), I'll be able to make those adaptations:

=IF(ROW($A1)>COUNTIF($C$2:$C$50,$F$1),"",INDEX($A$2:$B$50,MATCH($F$1&"-"&ROW(A1),$D$2:$D$50,0),1))

if the row number you are currently in is greater is greater than the count of all matches to F1 in C2:C50, then leave the cell blank, else, match F1 contents, a dash and the row number to the contents of range D2:D50, then return the item that is in the same row from column 1 of range A2:B50.

As you copy down, the Row(A1) turns to Row(A2) and therefore, you will try to match the F1 contents, a dash and a 2 to D2:D50, and so on....
