    Running macros in excel 2010

    Hi all,

I am doing a course on excel. Unfortunately, I've got 2010 and the online course is 2007. When running a macro, I'm supposed to up the escalation percentage to 50%. I have followed the instructions but the dialogue box that should appear, doesn't. It's supposed to happen after I click on 'Macros', then on 'escalate'(what I had to type previously for macro), then 'Edit'. this takes you to a the Visual Basic. From there, I'm supposed to click on 'file' - Save filename.xlsm, and the again on 'file' and choose 'close and return to excel. This is supposed to bring up a dialogue box which asks the user to 'enter an escalation percentage'. Well it didn't appear and I have no idea where to find it. This is just one of many commands that differ bw 2010 & 2007. I hope this makes sense and I really hope that someone can help me.

It sounds as though you have created a macro which you have named as "escalate".

I suspect that within your code somewhere you have a value which you need to change from something to 50%.

I'm using 2007 and escalate means nothing to me.

Hi TMS, that's right I had to name the macro 'escalate'. The problem is after I've gone into Visual Basic, and clicked on the steps as they have listed, the dialogue box that's supposed to appear, doesn't. Thanks anyway. I'm going to give up and fail the task. It's driving me mad.

You need to post the code or attach the workbook. However, with your attitude of giving up then maybe you shouldn;t be studying VBA
    Hope that helps.

In the cold hard light of day, if it's supposed to run when you close the Workbook, I suspect that you are missing a Workbook Close event. Either that or Event monitoring is disabled.

Learning Excel and, in particular, VBA isn't an overnight job. It requires a lot of reading and application.
