Excel is importing non-date fields as dates

    Hello,

I am working with excel files that are generated as .TXT files from a machine. One of the fields outputs includes a field with a forward slash and I believe because of this Excel interprets it as a date field. However, it is not a date field and it needs to be displayed as the two number with the slash. It cannot simply be turned back into a text field, however, because it has already been converted into some long number that represents the date. Is there a way to not have excel try to interpret this field as a date field as it opens the file?

    Thanks,

    --Evan

Well you can change the cell under format cells to Date.

I'm a little bit confused, I am trying to have the Excel file not format these cells as dates.
