how to enter 01 and show 01 without using '01

    Well, this has me stumped.

I have a column of 2 digit numbers from 01 to 99 and I want the 0 to show before the 1. When I format as text, it works, but then it displays a small black mark in the upper left corner of the cell, which I don't want to see.

    Any ideas ?

Go to Format, then format cells, go down the list to custom, then where it says General, overtype with 00
Now if you type a single digit in that cell it will show a leading 0.
