Please help me with this chart. Not sure where to start. :(

I have to create a chart with Graph for work.
I need the following information on the chart.
I need to make a daily running chart for February with the days listed 1-29 on the graph.
I need downtime issues listed on the graph (example: die problem, material problem, conveyor problem, guide pin problem, weighing problem,)
Also on the graph I need the machine number (example: machine #1, machine #2, Machine #3, and so on) there are 9 machines.

So, on the graph I need the days listed for February, the machine problem, and the machine number listed with a line graph or bar graph.

I can't visualize what the chart needs to look like? Not sure how to list the days of the week? The Machine Number and List problems?
I have to make this a daily running chart so I can input the information daily on the chart.
I can't make this a seperate chart for each machine.
I have to combine all machines, problems and days on One chart. That's what makes it difficult for me.

    I appreciate the help.

Hi 68rs327 and welcome to the forum,

Your question title isn't specific enough and we get in trouble by answering a question like this. Please click on the green edit button below the above post (and maybe go advanced) and change the thread title to something more specific like "Chart with 4 series needed".

After you change the title, look at a possible answer attached.
If you don't understand the attached or need to use a Dynamic Named Range to make it better, keep asking (Only if you change the thread title first)

Hi, i have attached a spread sheet for you to look at.
From my experience of doing things like this i like to be able to look at data by day, week number and month. in the attached file on data entry tab, put the day of the week to record all 6 machines ( and you will notice i have put machine 1-6 on same date) colum b,c,d calculates this date into week number, month and year( using lookup do not alter)
Record machine error as example.( by using numbers)
Use pivot tables to get data so you can sort ( pivot table tab )
Chart tab to show your work. the examples i have done need cleaning up, but i did the data for day, week and month

by doing this it allows you to keep history of the machines data by being over time to filter by Year, month, week

    hope this helps you.

Or i forgot. Change the number under each problem to a time in mins to calculate total machine down time. Leave as 1 value to record if a machine has broken down. its how you want to display your info.

    Thank you for the help.
I need to show this in a line graph or bar graph.
I am having trouble with laying this out.
Need to show date, problem, machine number, and minutes downtime on the graph.
Can you show an example of this using your chart?
    Thanks again.

Hi, it would be difficult to display on a chart the info in that order, as it is text (date) problem (text) machine number etc. It is more logical to have as in attached example (Bar graph) year, machine number, date ( you could swap these round in the pivot boxes), then chart the total down time. trying to chart text on text gives you problem, you need numbers to break it up.

see attached file. i have added times to problem descriptions.

Have a go at changing chrt formats, and dragging things aroung pivot tabs.

    Does this help?
