    Excel found unreadable content...

    Hello,

I tried to open a excel file from another Program, but if I open the file I get this message: “Excel found unreadable content…”, if I click "Yes". My VB code is deleted or not working. If I run the same file from explorer it works, without problems. So
I made some tests, with windows “Run”.

    “C:\test.xlsm” is working.
“excel C:\Test.xlsm” is not working. There I get the failure.

Have some an idea, why it is doing like that? What are the difference between the both starts.

I work on WinXP, with Office 2007.

    Many thanks in advance
    Andre

Hi Asperli 12 and welcome to the forum,

What comes to mind first is that you have two different installs of Excel on your machine. Excell 2007 and on knew what a .xlsm was. Before 2007 Excel files were called .xls.

If you are using a program that is earlier and didn't know about .xlsm then it would report an error. Programs might be backward compatible but old programs can't understand stuff that hasn't been released yet.

    See if http://support.microsoft.com/kb/273711 helps.
One test is worth a thousand opinions.

    Thanks for reply,

but on the Target Maschine Excel 2007 is installed. So I do not use the viewer.

I do again some test. -> If I start the File with the File-Selection Dialog of Excel, I get the same Problem. Because of that I don't beleve it has some to do with my external Comand.

    So someone has an idea.

    cu Andre

Perhaps it is a file associate confusion between .xls and .xlsx extensions.

Look at the OS File Association to see which program is running when .xlsx files are opened.
