Date Filter Problem

Hi All

I'm new at excel any help is welcome

I downloaded an excel worksheet from my trading software and I would like to filter the dates.

The problem is i get a text filter not a date filter. I think some of the date formats are recognized as texts how can i fix this (changing cell format to date doesn't work)?

Thanx

ould you upload a sample file showing some of the dates that "dont work"? Its hard to say what the problem might be without seeing whats happening
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

Re: Date Filter Problem

hello
\ zack, some of your dates are not "real dates" formatted as texts.
don't know hoy did you paste it but formula's don't work, as what i think so..

workaround..

click all the dates
go to text-to-columns
choose date, under data column format.

change the date format to desired..

apply.
that should fix the dates..

hope that helps.
I think people forget the word "THANK YOU!!!!" Do you still know it???

See if you can download as a csv first. Then save as a *.xlsx.
Hope that helps.

Re: Date Filter Problem

Hi!

First off, I apologise if we're not allowed to dig up old threads about an issue. I looked for a thread regarding forum posting rules but couldn't find one. Maybe someone could point it to me.

Secondly, I'm having the exact same problem as the OP. I followed vlady's tip and it worked, but only for when you actually typed the date in the column. So there I have 2 columns right next to each other with the exact same date format. Only difference is that one contains actual entered date, the other has formulas and some manually entered date. The column C (let's call it Updated Date) contains formulas >> =IF(B2="";"";B2) << that links to Original Date column B. It's simple, if the ORG Date is empty, Update Date is empty too, if not it display date from ORG Date. Only when ORG Date and Update Date do not match that I have to manually enter the date to Update Date. The issue is that the Update column won't allow me to filter by date, only Text Filter available. Even after I have applied vlady's tip to the whole column in the table.

However, there's one situation where I can actually use Date filter in the Update Date column. If the table is filtered in a way that Update Date column doesn't have any blank cells, I'll be able to use Date filter in this column. If there are blank cells ""(cells that contain formula but do not return the date value), Update Column won't have Date Filter option.

I can put 0 instead of "" but then the cells will display 00/01/1900 and the issue would go away but I really dont want that. I prefer that Excel treats that formulated column like valued column.

A sample is attached here.

Thanks for reading!

Re: Date Filter Problem

I have tried Vlady's approach but still no results. I have a column that copies data from another sheet. The data on both sheets are dates.
On the first sheet, DATE FILTER options work just fine, on the 2nd sheet the column is treated as TEXT.
I do not know what to do and it is quite frustrating to manually enter the values, because if i manually enter them the filter works just fine!!!
Any help here please?

EDIT: Just to help other people in case they see this post. The solution is to copy and paste link the cells that you have a date value. Then you do not loose the date filter options as it is not treated as text.
