Referencing the first cell in a filtered column?

    1) In Column A, I have a list of different labels. For instance, A1-A5="Dog", A6-A10="Cat", A11-15="Bird".

    2) I've applied a filter.

    3) In a nearby cell I would like to reference the first cell in Column A, dependent on my filter settings. So, for instance, if I filter the column such that "Dog" is the first entry, I would like "Dog" to appear in the nearby cell. If I filter the column again and "Bird" is now the first entry, I would like "Bird" to appear in the nearby cell.

Any idea how I can do this?

    Thanks!
