Freeze Column headings without using "Freeze" function

Greetings! I've been looking for a solution to this problem for about a week now and haven't had much luck. I think my searches have been less than fruitful as I do not know the right terms to use to make excel do what I'm looking for.

Here's the problem: I have a project management spreadsheet with a bunch of contact information at the top and various tasks underneath the contacts. All the column headings underneath the contact information need to be visible as the user scrolls through the various tasks. However, the contact information does not need to be present. Using the "freeze pane" function in excel allows me to keep the column headings always visible above the tasks but it also freezes the contact information above those tasks as well. Consequently I lose half to 3/4 of the viewable area with the contact info at the top.

Desired result: Ultimately I'd like to see the contact information slide out of view as the user scrolls down and leave just the column headings for the tasks portion of the spreadsheet at the top. I'm almost sure I've seen this done in the past in an excel class I took but I'll be darned if I can repeat it. My queries keep leading back to the freeze pane solution which isn't working for me. I've attached an illustration to hopefully help with my explanation.

Can't this actually be done or am I full of it?

Thanks in advance for the help!

You can try creating a Custom View using this approach.

See this page on Creating and Deleting Custom Views

Create the first view with the worksheet showing all rows.
Save this view and give it a name.

    Next,
Hide the contact information rows by selecting each of the row headers, right-click on the row header and choose Hide Rows.
    Apply Freeze Panes normally.

The create and name the custome view.

Now, it is just a matter of selecting between the two views you want.

Or, if you don't want to create custom view, simply scroll the page down so that the contact information rows are off screen then apply the Freen Panes normally.
The rows will remain off-screen until you turn off freeze panes and scroll back up.
