    cell format for min:sec?

I want to format a cells for minutes-seconds.
I am trying mm:ss. Is this correct?
It does not seem to work and what is worse it changes the data. An then changing the format to something else changes the data again.
    1. Is 5:50 formmatted mm:ss 5 minutes and 50 secs?
    2. The input changing is really a problem in my mind. Can I get it back?

    Hello,

A cell format will never change the underlying data.

    You need to enter

    0:05:50

You cannot omit the hour, just leave it at zero. Then use a custom format for the cell with "mm:ss"

    cheers,

Thanks. I think it worked. We took the easy way out and changed the data to seconds.
