Excel 2007 : How do I get the workbook to open

I am not new to Excel, but I am having a problem with my work computer's Office 7 Excel. I will double click on a workbook to open it and it won't open automatically. I will have to either go to the MS Office button and click Open and open it from a file or go to the MS Office button and click New then when the dialog box opens I click cancel and the workbook I was trying to open will open. How can I get this thing to work correctly?

what is hapening when you double click on the file? it could be a file association issue that needs to be corrected in your windows settings.
