Option to Find Duplicates (as opposed to remove duplicates)

I'm generating some URLs based on a spreadsheet for a project I'm doing.

    I have two problems

The data I have goes something like this (each in their own cell):

    mary lake
    lake town
    maryland reservoir
    yada yada yada

I need these pieces of data to have dashes in between them ex:

    mary-lake
    lake-town
    maryland-reservoir
    yada-yada-yada

I need a way to replace " " with "-" but ctrl+f & replace isn't letting me do it that easy.

The second problem is some of the URLs in my spreadsheet are going to take the same name and I cannot have two URLs with the same name. If you see the attachment there are some similarly named lakes and for those lakes I'm going to have to put in a -1 or something at the end of the URL to define a difference. I have to crawl through tens of thousands of lakes so if there was a way for excel to JUST highlight the duplicates that would be great, so I can easily see what URLs need some extra TLC.

What will get the bonus star is an equation in excel that will find duplicates for column D in the attachment. Once column D's duplicate is found it will generate a basic number-off. Like row 4 and 5 are identical, so for row 4 it stays /mary-lake as the original, and recognizes row 5 needs to be /mary-lake-1 and if there is a third /mary-lake-2

Thanks for the help. This forum is a life saver.

Re: Option to Find Duplicates (as opposed to remove duplicates)

    Hey,

    I'm having another issue.

Sometimes the data I use happens to have a space at the end of the cell....Then it ends up showing up like this in excel:

    /alabama/Alabama-River-
    /alabama/Black-Warrior-River-
    /alabama/Cahaba-River-
    /alabama/Chattahoochee-River-

With a dash at the end, interpreted as a space via the equation you used.

Can you either disable dashes at the end of the URL or make excel ignore the space at the end of the cell?

    Thanks
